Firaxis today announced, much to the pleasure of console owners across the globe, that XCOM 2 will be making its way onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this September, in collaboration with The Workshop, who will port the previously PC exclusive title to consoles.
“The incredible reception of XCOM 2 has been rewarding and humbling for the team, and we’ve known console fans have been clamoring to play the game too,” said creative director, Jake Solomon.
“As avid console players ourselves, we’re excited to work with The Workshop to bring XCOM 2 to all of our fans.”
Taking place 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2 follows the continuity that XCOM, a military organization trying to fight off an alien invasion, has (canonically) lost the war, and is now a resistance force against their occupation of Earth.
An short announcement trailer was also released. XCOM 2 will arrive on both consoles on September 9th. Time to brush up on my abilities again, and maybe start a new playthrough before then. Xbox One and 360 fans can look forward to playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown in the second half of June when it becomes available via Games with Gold and backwards compatibility.
