Microsoft are updating their services agreements which includes the requirement for Xbox users to sign in at least once every 5 years in order to keep your gamertag active.
Back in May, we reported that Microsoft would be releasing nearly one million gamertags back into circulation that had laid dormant since the years of the original Xbox (you can read the article here).
Going forward, from September Xbox users will need to sign into their accounts at least once every 5 years or Microsoft will disassociate the gamertag from the Microsoft account. Summarising the changes to the agreements Microsoft state “In the Microsoft Account or Skype Account section, we’ve added a requirement that you must sign into the Xbox Services at least once in a 5-year period to keep the Xbox gamertag associated with your Microsoft account”.
Presumably this could see more “inactive” gamertags released to active gold members in the future. Is 5 years a fair amount of time in your opinion? Let us know what you think.
