During this past weekend’s Galway Film Fleadh (festival in Irish) in Ireland, John C. Reilly announced that he has signed on for the second movie of Wreck-It Ralph, all but confirming its previously rumoured existence. This is good news. Very good news!
Reilly played the lead role in Wreck-It Ralph, as the man himself, who lived in a video game world as the bad guy, who had to smash up a house that Fix-It Felix Jr, controlled by the player, would control and try mend the damage as quickly as possible without dying. Ralph didn’t like being the bad guy, and attended regular Bad Guy meetings, alongside Bowser, the Pac-Man ghosts, and Bison and Zangief from Street Fighter.
It’s not long before Ralph goes missing, looking to find another game in the arcade where he can become the hero, and things take a turn for the worse. It’s a fantastic animated movie that entertains both gamers and non-gamers with its lovable characters, and brilliant gaming references and easter eggs, and I’m glad to learn that there’s another movie in development. With the success of the first movie, it shouldn’t be too hard for other studios and publishers to give in and let the movie feature their characters upon request. A report elsewhere suggests that Zelda’s Link may also be making his way to the big screen as well, although we’ll wait for confirmation before getting too excited!
