A feature-length movie based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher series is currently in the works, with a penned 2017 release date. The Sean Daniel Company, producers of The Mummy series, has announced it will work with Polish company Platige Films on the project.
The film will be based on themes from the short stories “The Witcher” and “Lesser Evil” from “The Last Wish” collection. Thania St.John, an experienced Hollywood scriptwriter, author of such television productions as ‘Grimm’, ‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, is working on the script as well as on its film and television continuation. The film will be an introduction to the Witcher’s world and is planned to be the beginning of a series.
Compared to the likes of Game of Thrones, the world of the Witcher is a grim, magical one, with Geralt being a man with superhuman abilities. The latest video game in the franchise, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is already collecting awards and accolades, and could potentially be 2015’s Game of the Year.
It goes without saying that video game movie adaptations are never really on the mark, with many failures, and many mediocre efforts. This movie will be based on a novel, and again, movie translations aren’t always the best. Will you have high hopes for this?
