Watch Dogs 2 is only a week away from its worldwide release, and Ubisoft have released a launch trailer to make you want to push the pre-order button. Watch Dogs 2 comes two years after the first game, which both tried to be its own open world hack-athon, and create another serious franchise. It let people down, but this one looks like the game it should have been.
Yes, If Watch Dogs 2 was in fact Watch Dogs 1, this game would be a perfect start to a new IP. However, due to a lot of people feeling burned by the first effort, I feel that even the title ‘Watch Dogs’ is going to impact on this very good looking open world action title. With a varied cast of characters, a plot relating to taking down a massive corporation looking to control everyone and their data, and a bunch of new and interesting features on top of already existing ones, Watch Dogs 2 could be a great game, regardless.
“After being wrongly profiled as a criminal risk by a citywide operating system, Marcus Holloway investigates to find rampant corporate corruption and manipulation of the public. Marcus and his group of hackers, DedSec, wage a war to take down the system and return power to the people.”
It sounds like a plotline that could potentially take place in our own real world, doesn’t it? Watch Dogs 1 introduced us to DedSec, Blume and ctOS, and we’re seeing them all return for the sequel, as you get involved with a hacker group to take down the data corporation.
A Youtube user sums up a good point regarding the story overview there, which is rather amusing. “After being wrongly profiled as a criminal risk by a citywide operating system, Marcus Holloway becomes a Criminal.”
The game will also feature a multiplayer, co-op and competitive experience. Online Invasion makes a return, which was one of Watch Dogs’ best ideas, seeing you enter someone else’s world to try and hack them without being noticed. It got intense! It should be more fun now however, with a world twice the size of Chicago in the first game, with the massive, colourful setting of San Francisco this time around.
Watch Dogs 2 releases on November 15th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Will you be hacking into the store to buy a copy?
