At Blizzcon on Friday, Legendary Pictures and Blizzard revealed the first trailer for their big screen adaptation of Warcraft. The trailer was fantastic, but for some people, like myself, I hadn’t a clue what was going on or who was who. So, I asked a Warcraft super fan for an explanation, and here, Chris explains the situation.
“The Warcraft movie take places during Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2 (It seems that way from the trailer, hard to tell exactly, but it’s before Warcraft 3 for sure). These were the Real-Time Strategy games before World of Warcraft, but they are all set in the same universe. It looks to take place during The First War too. Humans have lived on Azeroth in peace for some time, and now they have to defend themselves from an invasion of orcs, from a world called Draenor, which is dying.
Most are a savage race of blood-thirsty berserkers. Some are Warlocks and others just want a home for their people. Gul’dan, an orc warlock, discovered rifts between worlds, and the rift he opened leads to Azeroth. Eventually, after a few orc raids, some successful, others not, to Azeroth, they begin construction on a massive portal to Azeroth. This is known as The Dark Portal. The orcs try to find land for their people while war is about to kick off between them and the humans.”
Ah, much better. Thank you for that Chris! Chris also likes making timelines for Facebook out of Warcraft, Dark Souls, Game of Thrones and more. Check out his Facebook page and give him a like! I’m sure he’ll take requests too!
