Three new titles arrive on Xbox One’s backwards compatible list this week, bringing the number of games up to… well, I’ve lost count. Over 200 anyway, which ain’t bad. Games come almost weekly or fortnightly, and with new Games with Gold titles from today, that’s another one for the list.
The new backwards compatible games include Bound by Flame, The Maw and Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. And it was. There have been no Virtua Fighter titles since. Sad face.
Bound by Flame is a fantasy-themed action role-playing game that was released in 2014. It puts the player in the role of a victim of a demonic influence, where it’s necessary to choose between the evil powers that are offered or rejecting them in favor of developing heroic talents.
The Maw is a 2009 action-adventure video game developed by Twisted Pixel Games. The Maw centers around the extraterrestrial Frank and a purple, amorphous creature called The Maw, who have crash-landed their spacecraft on an alien planet. The player assumes the role of Frank and directs The Maw—which can take on the abilities of objects and fauna it consumes.
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown contains the definitive version of VF5, refined over the years since its original arcade debut. The new release also adds an extensive list of features never before seen on consoles. And yes, it’s a 3D fighter.
The benefits of backwards compatible games on Xbox One include:
- Available at no additional cost; you don’t have to pay to play games you already own.
- Keep your Xbox 360 game saves, game add-ons, achievements, and Gamerscore.
- Enjoy the advanced features of your Xbox One like Game DVR, Screenshots and Windows 10 streaming.
- Play multiplayer with your friends no matter which console they’re on.
- Works with disc-based and digital games.
An additional point I’ll add in is that you can party up with friends either on Xbox One parties, or start a 360 party. However, 360 players can’t join Xbox One parties, and vice versa. Xbox One players will need to start up a 360 game to be able to join your 360 party.
