Rumoured for some time, Ubisoft have today confirmed that a The Division movie is in the works, and it will star Academy Award nominees Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain. The Division was a massive hit for Ubisoft when it released earlier this year, and the narrative has a lot of potential for a big screen outing.
“We are excited to collaborate with Jessica and Jake, two of Hollywood’s most talented actors and perfect creative collaborators to help bring Tom Clancy’s The Division™ to the big screen,” said Gerard Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film,” added Matt Phelps, Vice President, Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
The Division is set in a post apocalyptic New York setting after a deadly virus wipes out most of the city’s population. The Division follows the story of sleeper agents who are trained to restore order and civility to the city, completing missions involving rescuing survivors, restoring basic needs and services, and putting a stop to rioters and those will ill intentions in the aftermath.
Jake Gyllenhaal would be best known for his roles in Prince of Persia, Donnie Darko, The Day After Tomorrow and Brokeback Mountain. Jessica Chastain featured in Interstellar, The Martian and Zero Dark Thirty. She might just be the ideal fit.
It’s unknown when this movie will hit cinemas, but I’m expecting a good 2 hour flick out of it. For an idea of what to expect, why not check out Contagion, and its comparisons to the game’s setup?
