Back in the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive days, lived an extremely memorable game by the name of ToeJam & Earl. A top down 2D platformer for one or two players, players controlled two alien rappers who crash-landed on Earth and you had to help them escape. I tell ya, back then, the stories in these games were amazing!
ToeJam & Earl are making a comeback in 2017 and new footage has emerged from PAX East which took place over the past weekend. The game retains many of the mechanics we all knew and loved, such as the screen splitting in two if both players went off in different directions, before merging into one screen when within a certain distance.
ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove will support up to 4 players this time around, making it a fun adventure for a group of friends sitting around the same tv, reliving their childhoods all over again. Dialogue features a lot more this time around, with multiple options of things to say in return, assigned to different buttons on the controller.
Presents you receive in game also offer gameplay altering effects, such as being able to make you fly to access unreachable locations on a map, and you can deploy a decoy to distract enemies. Some presents however, can blow up in your face. Hmmm.
ToeJam & Earl will release later in 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch!
