DayZ player and Youtuber Cyborg Lizard tried something out on the game as part of a social experiment. His mission was to hand strangers a free handgun, which was deliberately empty or faulty, to see if they would pull the gun on him.
Cyborg Lizard does enforce the fact that this video is only a portion of the encounters online, meaning that the same scenario didn’t happen every time. These are just the individuals who don’t have respect for others in the game world.
Not so surprisingly, similar encounters will happen in games like GTA Online, where traveling down the street in a public lobby suddenly feels like a death march. You know it’s coming, but you don’t know when and from where. “It’s only a game, kill everyone for fun” is what some might say, but if open world action games are anything of an indicator for the future, I worry about a potential apocalypse!
While only available on PC, DayZ is planned to release on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2016, in early access format.
