Yes, you read that right. Tetris, the game about falling blocks is getting not one, but THREE movies according to an Empire interview. The man in charge is Larry Kasanoff, who you may know for the Mortal Kombat movie adaptation or the infamous Food Fight. Oh, and did I forget to mention that they have a $80 million dollar budget too?
According to Kasanoff. “The story we conceived is so big. This isn’t us splitting the last one of our eight movies in two to wring blood out of the stone. It’s just a big story.”
“We’re not going to have blocks with feet running around the movie. But it’s great that people think so, it sets the bar rather low!”.
No casting has been announced yet, but Kasanoff wants to shoot in China, as well as incorporate a few local stars.
This isn’t something that was announced out of nowhere. Plans for a Tetris film have been falling into place since 2014.
There’s been a recent trend when it comes to video game movies. First Angry Birds, then Warcraft, and the Assassin’s Creed movie is coming out later this year. There’s also a Live-Action Sonic the Hedgehog movie in development too. How long until Activision gives Michael Bay the rights for a Call of Duty cinematic universe?
What do you think 4-One community? Will this get stuck in development hell like Warcraft? Can the first movie even make enough revenue to justify a sequel? What are some games more suitable for a multi-million dollar movie franchise? Share your thoughts in the comments section!
