Following in the footsteps of Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry, Taylor Swift is the next sign up with Glu Mobile to receive a game that will focus its attention on her fans, with a potential customer base of 227 million on social media.
According to website MCV, “Glu’s shares surged 29 per cent on the announcement.” That says it all really. I have no idea
“I am thrilled to welcome Taylor Swift, an award-winning singer, musician and songwriter, to Glu’s family,” Glu boss De Masi said. “We realise that Taylor and her global fan base expect a new and highly differentiated mobile gaming experience.
“Glu is equally committed to designing never before seen gameplay elements that utilize Taylor’s unique creativity. Accordingly, we will spend the required development time to ensure this innovation is achieved.”
Call me cynical, but really? ‘Innovation’, ‘never before seen gameplay elements’ and ‘new and highly differentiated mobile gaming experience’? I’m sorry, but when it’s released, I expect the unique gameplay elements bullet points to feature nothing but a Blank Space.
In Kim Kardashian’s Hollywood game, the player’s goal was to increase their fame and reputation, starting on the E-list and rising to the A-list. The game managed to make a profit of $150m. I wonder what the goals of Taylor Swift’s game will be.
