The Power Rangers are making a return in 2017 and having already seen the revamped, and not so unattractive Rita Repulsa (see below), we now get a chance to see the Power Rangers’ armour itself, and the use of the word ‘armour’ is definitely the case.
Looking very similar to the armour found in the likes of Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer, each of the Rangers look ready for sci-fi war, with heavy gear to protect themselves from whatever Rita can throw at them. The movie will feature a new cast of actors who replace the original lineup, and keep the original names such as Jason, Billy, Kimberly etc.
Becky G is the Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin is the Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery is the Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott is the Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler is the Blue Ranger Billy.
“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) says. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.” Elizabeth Banks takes the role of Rita Repulsa.
“It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) admits. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.” Fans like the Yellow Ranger herself. “It’s the coolest costume ever,” Becky G says. “I’m gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years.”
