Free-to-play indie parody game No Mario’s Sky has received a takedown notice from the forces of Nintendo’s lawyers. The game combined 2D Mario titles with a touch of 2D No Man’s Sky and it looked rather hilarious. Unfortunately, due to licensing issues, the joke is over. Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog recently told Famitsu that he always wanted to see Sonic and Mario pairing up in their own action game. While both have appeared repeatedly in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympics titles for Wii and DS platforms, they have yet to meet on a platformer. If you’ve been curious about what it feels like to create your own Super Mario Bros levels in Super Mario Maker but don’t have a Wii U, you’re in luck, because a programmer by the name of LuNey is working on a Fan Project known as “Super Mario Remaker”, which as the name suggests, It’s a fanmade “remake” of the Wii U game Mario Maker, except it only features the SMB1 engine. While the project is still in development and far from over, there’s already a demo available for you to try out!
When it released earlier this year Super Mario Maker proved to be one of the best level creation games on the market thanks to its accessibility and ease of use. It did however have some absences that would leave you scratching your head. These look set to be addressed in a new Super Mario Maker update that will release on November 4th.
If you were growing up in the late 80s or indeed any time in the 90s then chances are, at some point or another, you sat down and drew out ideas for Mario levels using pages ripped out of your math copybooks. Such is the simplicity of the core Mario platformers that it’s hard not to find inspiration in them and to try and impress your friends, …or endlessly frustrate them. Those ideas rarely made it past pen and paper because sadly most of us simply didn’t have the knowledge to actually go out and make them a reality. Now Nintendo has finally given us the opportunity to make our dreams come true and infuriate our loved ones with whatever bizarre, wacky and challenging levels we have been thinking about for the past 30 years.
