Insomniac Games are hard at work on a new Spider Man title for the PlayStation 4, which is both great and upsetting news. A popular comic book hero limited to one platform isn’t the greatest way to promote the character, but it will surely sell some consoles. But what of Sunset Overdrive and its future?
Speaking to Game Informer, Insomniac Games’ Ted Price said of the IP, “We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more Sunset in the future from us,” he said. “No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences.”
A lot of publications are assuming this points to a future PlayStation 4 release of the IP, either as a sequel like Respawn’s Titanfall 2, or perhaps a re-release of the now Xbox One exclusive? Insomniac own the IP, but perhaps there’s no way the game can appear on PlayStation 4 in any capacity, but a sequel could potentially be an option.
However, when asked about a sequel, he said “You’d have to ask Microsoft.” Maybe there’s a follow-up already in development, and Microsoft are keeping it quiet until E3? Maybe there’s nothing happening on that front at all?
Sunset Overdrive was a really smart game with gorgeous, colourful visuals and amazing gameplay mechanics and control. It was stupid, fun, and stupid fun. What every game should be about, really!
