Steam sales are exciting events in the lives of PC gamers. They bring much joy and pain in the form of extremely low prices on some great games. Most of the time the best deals can be had via flash sales and daily deals. All that is about to change.
Valve are doing away with our much loved daily and flash deals. Fear not however, as now games will be at their lowest prices for the entire steam sale! This is to take effect immediately and will apply to all future sales. Eurogamer has shared this information via a notice Valve sent out to Steam developers and publishers:
“We’ll still be highlighting your top games on the front page for 24-48 hour spans, but those products will stay at their most competitive discount, before and after being featured.”
“It’s not a major change, but it does make the sale a lot more valuable for customers, and it allows us to build sale features that recommend your product all sale long, instead of just during its front page feature.”
“For a brand new release, if you can’t get approval for your best discount for the full length of the sale, that’s OK and we can work on a plan for that game. But the vast majority of your catalog should be running its best discount for the duration of the sale.”
You might think that the flash sales added something to the process of a Steam sale, but I am sure there are a few of us that remember times we’ve missed deals as we didn’t have the funds to spare on that particular day. Now we won’t be tied down or under pressure to buy certain games on certain days. I think overall it will be good for gamers and good for Valve as it will probably allow people to buy more of the games they had their eye on.
