EA and DICE have confirmed that more free maps will come to Star Wars Battlefront in the future. This reveal came alongside a blogpost talking about how the game has now been available for one week, with the Battle of Jakku content coming in December, as we expected.
“It’s been just one week since we launched Star Wars Battlefront around the world, and on behalf of our teams at DICE and EA, I wanted to thank you for joining us on this awesome journey. And what a start!Star Wars Battlefront is the biggest launch of a Star Wars video game ever and is the largest digital launch in the history of EA,” said Patrick Söderlund, Executive Vice President at EA.
In two week’s time, on December 8th, The Battle of Jakku will launch. Taking place 29 years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Battle of Jakku is a free DLC pack for Battlefront that adds two new maps (including one for popular modes like Walker Assault and Supremacy) and a new mode to the game. Those who pre-ordered Star Wars Battlefront can play this content on December 1st.
Söderlund finished his blog post with what’s to come, including the free maps and star cards, separate from the expensive season pass. “Of course, we are also planning to support Star Wars Battlefront with new content well into the future. We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass. We’ll have more to share soon.”
The new game mode being added for Battle of Jakku is Turning Point. Similar to Supremacy, the Rebels need to capture three capture points that are already held by Imperial forces. Expect a lot of casualties. This game mode willbe playable for 40 players.
