Given the success of the latest Star Wars Battlefront reboot, it was only going to be a matter of time before EA announced a sequel. Now, thanks to an announce made at EA’s call to investors briefing, that Battlefront 2 has been confirmed to be in development. However, typically when these announcements are made its usually a simple confirmation and then the fans are left to wonder. This time however we’ve got some details, check out what we know below!
Unfortunately we don’t have a lot to go on, but what we can tell you is that EA are aiming for a 2017 release. So given previous trends of this generation we can expect it to hit the market some time in 2019, on the grounds that everything goes smoothly. EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen further confirmed that Battlefront 2 will feature “bigger and better worlds” than that 2015 rendition of Battlefront and will also feature content based on the “new movies.”
Obviously he didn’t elaborate what was meant by the “new movies” part of the announcement but given that the recent game only featured content limited to the original trilogy (with the exception of the Jakku map) we think it’s safe to assume that he’s talking about Episode 7 and whatever else the future holds for the Star Wars series.
It’s fair to say that EA are listening to the fans with this latest announcement, while widely regarded as a success, Star Wars Battlefront fans were still disappointed when they found that the majority of the game was going to be based on content pulled from the original trilogy. As always we’d just like to take the opportunity to encourage our fan-base to remain reserved in regards to speculation of any future games until we’ve heard more from the developer. E3 2016 is just weeks away and EA are going to want to keep any industry secrets firmly behind closed doors.
