Splatoon has turned out to be one of the most enjoyable games to grace our consoles in recent years and Nintendo have been true to their word about adding new content on a regular basis. We’ve already had new maps, new weapons and the unlock of ranked battles. Now it’s time for the Splatfest.
Splatfests are special events that Nintendo will be hosting periodically and Splatfest 1 will see the maps go dark as the game hosts night-time battles. In this post apocalyptic land (seriously, this game has some surprising hidden lore) the streets will glow bright ink… neon ink. You’ll join a team based on how you answer one all important question, a question that has plagued mankind since the dawn of time… dogs or cats. You’ll then fight tooth and nail for 24 hours to make sure that good prevails over evil and that the correct team win. (GO TEAM DOG!)
The event itself starts at 6PM UK time on the 4th of July (12:00 AM July 5th Pacific Time/ 3:00 AM Eastern Time). The Splatfest was expected to take place earlier but following connection difficulties with the first Japanese Splatfest they decided to temporarily postpone it due to “tentacle difficulties”. If you’ve played the game you’ll now just how much the Splatoon team love their puns so prepare yourself for what we say next courtesy of Nintendo. “Celebrate your inkdependence with nighttime Turf War battles and fireworks!”
Of course that’s not the only celebration needed as Splatoon has officially sold more than 1 million copies getting it off to an inkredible start and for good reason, the game is great. If you haven’t already seen it you can check out our review here. In the meantime Stay Fresh!
