Sonic the Hedgehog live action/CG movie due in 2018

Sonic the hedgehogFirst announced back in 2014, it seems that the live action/CG Sonic the Hedgehog movie is still receiving a green light, with plans to have it hit cinemas at some point in 2018. The fact that Sonic is still getting attention is a great thing, but let’s hope this isn’t yet another nail in the blue-blur’s coffin.

Sega’s President and CEO recently told World Folio that “Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018

Combining both live action and CG to make a movie might not seem too far-fetched, with many movies including the classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit doing it. Sonic has a decent cast behind him too, with Eggman or Dr Robotnik being the obvious bad guy who would be great in a real life portrayal. Then there’s Tails, Knuckles and even Amy to bring along for the ride. It could be super cringe-worthy, but it could be a bit of fun if done well. I’m also wondering what version of Sonic they will go with. Hopefully it won’t be the Sonic Boom version, with him wearing a scarf and bandages. The classic Sonic the Hedgehog games Sonic was my favourite, but I’m impartial to the ones seen in the animated TV shows.

Do you have high hopes for a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, or do you feel the same whenever game-to-movie announcement is made?
