Skyrim Remaster rumours abound

skyrim remasterAccording to a source on NeoGaf, it may be possible that Bethesda will announce a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim during their media briefing this Sunday. It’s too soon to expect another Elder Scrolls title, especially for a 2016 release, so would a remastered Skyrim fill the void for fans?

When you consider the fact that Bethesda ported Skyrim to the Xbox One ‘as a test’ before the console, along with the PlayStation 4 were released, it’s not impossible. At the time, ahead of Fallout 4’s development, Bethedsda toyed with porting Skyrim to the Xbox One so they could research the possibilities prior to development.

With last year’s announcement of backwards compatibility on Xbox One, Skyrim was of course one of the most requested titles, although to this day it still hasn’t surfaced yet. Maybe it’s a case of a business reason, with money to be made from high demand.

Before Fallout 4’s launch, the story broke about the Skyrim port, with Todd Howard saying “The first thing we did was port Skyrim to Xbox One. Don’t get your hopes up yet.” Yet?

Over on NeoGaf last night, a link to a German gaming website said the following, translated:

Like last year, Bethesda will organize its own press conference at the upcoming E3 in Los Angeles . As the self-appointed industry insiders » Shinobi602 ” claiming an announcement of Skyrim remakes is us there allegedly presented . The HD – remastered version of Elder Scrolls RPG to its information appear after for PS4 and Xbox One .

While PC players already have access to the best version of Skyrim available thanks to mod support, why not bundle up a remastered version with all available DLC,  up-rezzed visuals and a higher framerate if possible? Then Bethesda could potentially add in the modding tools that have recently arrived on Fallout 4 for Xbox One, coming to PlayStation 4 soon too!

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

In saying that, it would be unusual for Bethesda to host their second E3 show just to reveal a remastered title. I know Dishonored 2 is also getting some attention, but it goes without saying that The Elder Scrolls and Fallout are Bethesda’s two fan favourites, and Doom already released this year. Quake perhaps? Who knows, but a potential remaster of Skyrim could also be on the cards.

We shall wait with bated breath, but in the meantime, get ready for another year of arrow to the knee jokes if this rumour proves to be true.
