Skyrim console mods and where to find them

skyrim special editionThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is out this week for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and with it comes the ability to add mods to your game. While somewhat limited in scope on the PlayStation 4, the fact that they are included is still a bonus, and gives you another excuse to pick it up again. But where do you find these mods?

You will be shocked to learn that you have to visit the Bethesda website of all places! I know, right?! Click the link here, and then choose what platform you want the mod for.  Whether it’s new masks, lore based loading screens, new items and gear or additional quests, the system is pretty straight forward, and will surely expand with time. Click into the mod you like, add it to your library, and when logged in, it will start downloading on your preferred platform. Easy peasy.

Here’s the kicker though. Xbox One players can download 5gb of mods for their console, while PlayStation 4 players can only add 1gb of mods. Another point to mention is that PlayStation 4 mods aren’t allowed to use external resources or files, unlike the Xbox One version, which means that PS4 users can only use assets included in the game, like textures and structures etc.

One of the more popular Skyrim mods will be available on Xbox One. You may know it, it’s called ‘Frostfall’.

“The three main components of Frostfall are hypothermia, cold water survival, and camping. Frostfall adds a deep, immersive level of gameplay to Skyrim, while keeping tedium to a minimum. An immersion mod should never get in the way of having fun.

Frostfall tracks your location, weather, time of day, worn clothing, and more, to determine your current condition in a seamless way that feels easy to jump into and start playing. It is highly customizable, whether you’re looking for a lightweight immersion enhancement or a deeper challenge.”

Skyrim Special Edition releases this Friday on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
