This campaign, called the ‘Slacker Backer’, gives those who missed it the first time round another chance to back the game, and “be a part of the Shenmue legacy.”
The original campaign reached raised a total of $6.3 million, breaking all kinds of records, including being the fastest funded game in Kickstarter history reaching it’s $2 million in less than 12 hours after its announcement at the Sony E3 conference.
Despite its success though, they are still short of that $10 million mark of what creator Yu Suzuki said would be required to “truly have the features of an open world,” which is likely why they are back for more.
A lot of questions have been raised about their crowdfunding campaign, and while you might be excited for the game it is hard not to see the points being made.
A question many are raising about this one is that the $100 backer option does not give you the choice between the PS4 and PC versions like the original did. Instead it gives you a choice between the PS4 digital or physical, and a digital copy of the PC trial. There has never been any official confirmation that a PC version was in the making, just that it was being discussed. But the original did say that backers would get it, so hopefully this is just a mistake.
As well as that the physical editions being offered in this campaign are different from those in the original which may tempt collectors into paying again, or being very annoyed.
