The Game Awards will host its second annual event this December, on the 3rd specifically. Starting last year, it was a project put together and hosted by Geoff Keighley, and went down rather well on its first effort. The event will be streamed live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Geoff Keighley told The New York Times that he’s expecting about 4,000 people to attend in person, while the event will be streamed on Twitch to PC, Xbox and Playstation, and he believes that viewer count this year will exceed the 2 million people who watched it last year.
Last year, Keighley spent $1million of his own money to create the event, a nice number to have available to you, but that he ended up out of pocket following the event. That’s dedication. This year however, he has signed on Verizon as a sponsor, as well as the developers and publishers who will advertise their games during the event. Here’s hoping he turns a profit this year, or that investors start giving him some backing to keep this Award show alive.
