First we were hit with the announcement of the Final Fantasy VII remake, now this? Final Fantasy XII isn’t the most popular in the franchise, but we could see a remake or a remaster on the way if this turns out to be true.
While speaking at a Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert on Saturday, composer Arnie Roth who is also the principle conductor and music director of several Final Fantasy concerts let slip that Final Fantasy XII is getting a remake. Hitoshi Sakimoto, who scored FFXII, was also in attendance.
This may have been a mistake on Roth’s part, as it’s unusual for an announcement to be made in this way, but it wouldn’t be a complete shock as Yoshinori Kitase, director of titles such as Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X has spoken about the possibility of a HD version of Final Fantasy XII before. In an interview with rpgsite.net
“I mean, if we HAD to single out one of the vast number of Final Fantasy titles which we could make in HD, it would have to be Final Fantasy XII,” he said. “I was not involved in the project, though, so we can’t really comment on that.“
You can take a look at the footage of Roth’s announcement Via Final Fantasy Network below.
So what do you think about this rather sketchy announcement? Do you think it’s true and is it something that you’d play? Personally I think FFXII could do with a remake. I loved the world it was set in but was unhappy with many other elements of the game. Give us your thoughts on the matter below!
