Trusty old Rare, eh? With recent news headlines of their Sea of Thieves game being the best game the studio has ever created, coming from the mouth of Microsoft executive Kudo Tsunodo, there may be some pressure on the team to live up to those words, and create a phenomenal game world. Best hire some real life pirates to make sure the game is authentic, eh?
Sea of Thieves is an upcoming multiplayer adventure video game coming to the Xbox One and Windows 10 platforms at an unconfirmed date in 2016. Players will be able to sail the seas, board other ships, and search land for treasure. We haven’t had this opportunity since, well, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. What can Rare do to stand out from the crowd of drunken pirates, and avoid walking the plank to certain death? Why, hire some pirate consultants of course!
“I think with Sea of Thieves, what you’re really going to see as you find out more about the game, is that it’s also about allowing people to create their own gaming memories,” says Microsoft corporate VP Kudo Tsunoda in an issue of Official Xbox Magazine dating back to August. “It’s about enabling people to create their own stories through limitless possibilities, and I think that’s what Rare has always done a great job of historically – it is great at creating these super emotional memories and attachments that people have to games.”
It’s good to see some humour and charm on the media front, and it did give us a laugh, but we’re just hoping that Sea of Thieves does indeed turn into something special, and whether or not it turns out to be Rare’s greatest game yet, time will tell. Yarrrrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!
