Sony has finally made PlayStation 2 emulation possible on PlayStation 4, and it is available as of today. There are only a few titles available right now, but that list will grow. The kicker is that your PlayStation 4 won’t support the discs if you already own them, and you will have to buy them if you want to play them. The reason for this is because the games will be upscaled for full screen display at 1080p, so your old PS2 Classics or regular discs won’t be compatible. It’s a pain, with each game costing $15, but for the added features, it may be worth your while. Some argue that it’s good value, considering older titles are hard to find, and if found, can cost more than its original retail price.
All titles made available for emulation will come with up-rendered 1080p visuals, Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals, and full Trophy support, giving you more of a reason and incentive to jump back in and play old classics.
The list of launch titles for the service, which will be expanded on in future include:
- Dark Cloud — $14.99
- Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
- Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
- The Mark of Kri — $14.99
- Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
- War of the Monsters — $9.99
We should find out more information at the PlayStation Experience event this weekend.
