Pokemon GO became one of 2016’s biggest trends, seeing gamers get up off their arse and head out for walks around their local parks, towns, cities and across the globe in some cases, catching digital Pokemon. It was fascinating to see, and while the game suffered in numerous ways with server issues, third-party app support and questionable updates, the augmented reality app continues to grow.
This week, the largest update since Pokemon GO released will hit iOS and Android, adding a load of new Pokemon, new berries to find and use, and more. “Creatures included in the update include Johto starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile, Eevee evolutions Umbreon and and Espeon, and other Gold and Silver favourites such as Hoppip, Murkrow and Donphan,” says Eurogamer, who know more about Pokemon than I do, as I gave up after the first 151 critters. There will be a total of 80 new additional Pokemon in this update.
The berries being added, the Pinap Berry and the Nanab Berry, will double your candy received if you a catch a Pokémon, and slow a tussling Pokémon’s movements, respectively. On top of that, new character customization options will be added, letting you change your character’s hat, jacket and trousers.
“Today is a momentous occasion for Pokémon Go as we welcome more Pokémon and build upon the encounter and capture mechanics for the passionate global community of Trainers playing the game,” said Niantic boss John Hanke. “Pokémon Go is a live experience which we’ll be continuing to support and evolve in new and interesting ways for years to come.”
