Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare was a massive success when it launched last year, winning the hearts of fans with its charming gameplay and superb character selection and customisation. The modes were fun, the graphics were wonderful, and the card packs to unlock new gear and accessories made it super addictive. Now, we’re getting a lot more of it!
At today’s showing of Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, we saw more new characters being introduced, this time on the Plants’ side. We saw Rose, who could turn her enemies into goats, just because. We also saw Colonel Corn, who could call in corn on the cob airstrikes and blast his enemies with his cob cannons, and we also met Citron, an orange from the future, who had access to cool technology.
One of the biggest additions was the Backyard Battleground, a sort of hub word that you could go into with your friends, and just explore. You could take on quests to unlock new challenges and gear, and meet the characters from Plants vs Zombies. The Backyard Battleground is accessible separately from the main modes of the game, so there’s no combat in the world, making it a good place to just chill out and catch up with your friends peacefully.
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 will also allow you to play the game solo as well. One big criticism about the first game, is that it was very co-op centric, which was fine if you had friends to play with, but there was no way to play alone. Co-op and competitive modes were the only option, and Garden Ops wasn’t fun if attempted alone. With the sequel, you can play much of the game by yourself if you so desire.
When the original Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare was building up hype, a lot of interesting marketing material was created, one of which being the Grass Effect parody of Mass Effect. EA wanted to take that further this time around, and have created a pre-order bonus in the form of the Grass Effect Z7 Z-Mech, a zombie mech covered in Mass Effect style armour. What I love is how the Z7 is literally just the N7, with the N turned sideways. Also, the Z-Mech is armed with a Zomni tool. Brilliant stuff. You can pre-order the game now to ensure you get the Z-Mech.
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 will be available on all platforms in Spring of 2016.
