Earlier this week the PS4 got a nice little price cut in Japan, and Xbox head Phil Spencer told IGN that he fully expects the console to get a price drop here too in the run up to the holidays.
This does not worry Spencer however, as they have their own plans for the holidays too, and likely has a few tricks up his sleeve to entice people onto Xbox.
“I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price,” Spencer said. “When I think about the playbook they’ve used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we’ll see a price drop from them coming.”
The PlayStation 4 has yet to see a price drop, so now, 2 years after release, it is due to save players some money. The Xbox One however has had a few. It started selling at $500 bundled with the Kinect, but then released a model not bundled for $400, then later dropping to $350 where it currently stands.
“It’s great for gamers when price competition happens. We saw that last holiday, and we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles.”
Spencer mentioned that the next Sony announcement should be coming out of the Paris Game Show in October, but there’s no guarantee that the price drop announcement will in fact be made there.
