PewDiePie is like Marmite. You either love him, or you hate him. Fair enough, he does a lot of Let’s Play videos of our favourite games, but appeals to the younger generation more than the chiseled, veteran gamers like ourselves, and while most people above the age of 20 probably dislike the guy, you can’t say he’s bad at what he does.
As reported by Destructoid, “According to a report from Swedish tabloid Expressen, Kjellberg’s company PewDiePie Productions AB made over $7.45 million or €6.7 million in profits in the year 2014.” Last year, PewDiePie was making $4 million in revenue from his work, and that has practically doubled since then.
Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg currently has 37 million subscribers on Youtube, the biggest following on the video service, so someone is enjoying his content! To date, his videos have had 4.1 billion views. Think about that for a second. He has produced 2,300 videos to date, and does a lot of charity work as well. He is soon to be a published author with a book titled “This Book Loves You” hitting the market in October of this year.
Like the Backstreet Boys, the Spice Girls and Kanye…well, omit the last one, the world needs PewDiePie. He’s helping to put gaming on the map in more ways than the rest of us, and he’s bringing new fans into our favourite pastime. Sure, they’re mostly kids, but I imagine a fair few adults enjoy his methods and sense of humour. We’re all different, we all have our own tastes and preferences, but numbers don’t lie, and PewDiePie has found massive success with his videos.
