As many of you probably noticed over the years, Blizzard have been largely a PC only developer and that was fair enough since few of their games would work on a console control scheme, but this time the team went explicitly about creating Overwatch for console too.
“It was kind of a dream of ours,” said game director Jeff Kaplan at Overwatch’s BlizzCon panel. “When we started to make Overwatch… it was our goal from day one to have this game playable on console.” He said when”designing the game so it felt great on a console controller almost put this forced design elegance on [them].”
The game won’t feature any cross platform play, which is only fair considering Overwatch is a FPS game giving PC players an advantage over console owners. However game will feature “full integration with Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.”
For now at least, there will be no Mac version of the game as Blizzard say it’s “too challenging”, instead choosing to focus on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.
With the closed beta, many people have been loving Overwatch, saying it’s a cross between Quake and Team-Fortress with elements of MOBA. I for one can’t wait to play it, and hope I get into the beta to try it out. What about you? Let us know in the comments!
