Free-to-play indie parody game No Mario’s Sky has received a takedown notice from the forces of Nintendo’s lawyers. The game combined 2D Mario titles with a touch of 2D No Man’s Sky and it looked rather hilarious. Unfortunately, due to licensing issues, the joke is over.
In an update on the developer, ASMB’s website, a posting says:
“NO MARIO’S SKY IS NO MORE-IO!
Due to a copyright claim by Nintendo we’ve had to take the game down.
Please check out our new game: DMCAs Sky.
Thanks everyone for playing and enjoying our little fan game. We would love to see an official Nintendo game in this style — a Mario Galaxy-style game in 2D within a procedurally-generated universe.”
It certainly looked interesting, and is a different take on traveling to different worlds as Mario. Adds a new perspective to Mario Galaxy though, doesn’t it?
