No Man’s Sky developer Sean Murray just posted a big announcement on PlayStation’s blog – No Man’s Sky will be released on June 21st!
In his post, Murray described No Man’s Sky as a game in which you can “trade, fight, explore, and survive in a boundless, computer-generated universe.”
The young developer seemed most excited to announce that a retail version of the game will be available in stores worldwide, and posted a picture of the impeccably designed box-art.
Also announced were collector’s editions of the game. A limited steelbook edition will be released for PS4, which will include an art book, an exclusive comic, and some in-game items.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Hello Games are also launching 10,000 units of the limited Explorer Edition for PC, which most notably includes a custom-made replica of a spaceship from the game.
No Man’s Sky has been in development for several years now, and has a world of pressure riding on it’s shoulders. Many are speculating that it will push the medium into a new frontier of game design, a belief which many have described as overly optimistic.
No matter what the outcome is, No Man’s Sky is certainly shaping up to be the most talked about game of the year – and personally, I think it’s incredibly refreshing that the most hyped about game of the year is a title that’s completely original. That alone is a good omen for the future of gaming.
No Man’s Sky will be released on PS4 on June 21st, and on PC the following day. It is now available for pre-purchase on Steam for 59.99.
