The Nintendo Switch is on the brink of release, and while questions have been asked about the launch lineup, we can at least take comfort in knowing that some really great titles are definitely on their way throughout 2017. Last night’s showcase put more minds at ease, as Nintendo announced a bunch of ‘Nindies’ indie titles making their way to the hybrid console/handheld.
“More than 60 quality indie games are confirmed for Nintendo Switch this year alone, and many games take advantage of unique Nintendo Switch features, including multiple play modes (TV mode, handheld mode, tabletop mode), flexible control options, local and online multiplayer* and innovative JoyCon functionality like HD rumble.”
Games promised to be making the list can be seen in the graphic below (it’s best you zoom in), but highlights confirmed include Stardew Valley, Shovel Knight, Yooka-Laylee, The Binding of Isaac, Rime, Shakedown Hawaii (the spiritual successor to Retro City Rampage), Overcooked and The Escapists 2.

Considering the adaptability of the console, this will make on-the-go gaming parties great fun for Switch owners, being able to summon a laughable, fun event anywhere you and your friends bring your Switch. With the JoyCon controllers snapping off of your handheld, you can be enjoying some same screen multiplayer as you travel, enjoy an afternoon in the park, or while chilling on the couch in front of the TV. Your options are endless.
I’m sure it won’t be long before we start seeing some retro classics from the likes of Sega and Square Enix, so some Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Final Fantasy and more. What else is missing? Perhaps some Rocket League, which we fantasized about earlier this year?
