This week, Game Informer has gotten the exclusive reveal on a bunch of Gears of War 4 content, and as well as the characters and their voice actors, we also get a look at some of the game’s new, visceral weaponry.
You can check out the characters here in one of our earlier articles, while we take a look at the two new weapons below. The Dropshot and the Buzzkill. Such lovely names, incredibly suitable for a game like Gears of War.
First up is the Dropshot, which is very much similar to the Digger from Gears of War 3, which burrowed under ground, before launching itself out of the ground, exploding amidst its shooter’s enemies. Was a glorious fun piece of kit it was. As for the Dropshot, Game Informer describes it as “the Dropshot fires an aerial mine that floats over the battlefield in a straight line as long as you hold the trigger. The moment you let go, the mine spins downward violently. If it hits the ground, it drills for a second before exploding, blowing anything nearby into chunks. If you manage to nail a direct hit on the enemy, it drills directly into their head, decapitating them while their body convulses until the mine explodes.”
Next up, we have the Buzzkill, and it certainly sounds like this piece of deadly machinery is going to kill a lot of your enemy’s buzz, to put a play on words with that. The Buzzkill is as dangerous as it looks, and you can tell right away what it probably does, but there’s more to it than that. You fire off a rally of flying saw blades, but “these saws don’t become embed in walls; they bounce, ricocheting off surfaces and tear enemies to shreds.”
You still have time to sign up for the Gears of War 4 beta which kicks off from April 18th. The beta will include a few multiplayer maps and hopefully a couple of modes to try out. Gears is one of the Xbox’s biggest titles for 2016 and let’s hope The Coalition chainsaw it out of the park!
