A new screenshot and some further details about Batman Arkham Knight’s DLC pack have been revealed. While we know that it will give players the ability to play as Batgirl, and that we can do so as of July 14th, we didn’t know much else, until now.
“Batgirl: A Matter of Family” has us taking control of Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon, who teams up with Robin to save her father, Commissioner Gordon, who’s been kidnapped by the Joker. The DLC pack takes place in an entirely new area called the Seagate Amusement Park, a theme park built on top of an oil rig that the Joker has rigged to be a massive death trap. “We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker,” says design producer Justin Vazquez.
“Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine,” Vazquez says. “Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off.”
Batgirl and Robin will face off against the Joker alongside Harley Quinn, set during events prior to Arkham Asylum, the first game in the series. During the mission, you will be able to make us of the new Dual Play combat mechanics. “Seeing these four iconic characters together at the same time will be a real thrill,” Vazquez added.
Harley Quinn will supposedly be wearing her trademark black and red Animated Series outfit as well, so she’ll look a little different from what you know her as in the Arkham series to date. The add-on pack will include the main story arc, side quests, collectibles left behind by the Joker, and Easter eggs for hardcore DC Comics fans. “[It’s] a love letter to the original game that started this incredible franchise,” Vazquez says.
