Poor ol’ Lara Croft, she hasn’t really had much attention what with Fallout 4 hogging the launch day lime light and all. That hasn’t stopped Microsoft from celebrating the launch however, though it seems like they’re looking to take some of the frustration out on some innocent young fans.
Eight people have been strapped to a bill board overlooking Southwark, in London, baring the slogan Survival of the Grittiest as a kind of high impact advertising campaign, which is there bizarre way of celebrating the launch of Rise of the Tomb Raider, (it came out a couple of days ago, alongside Fallout 4). It’s supposed to a form of who can survive the longest contest, the person who stays up there the longest, wins. What they win exactly isn’t specified but we haven’t even got to the best part yet.
The whole thing is currently being live-streamed, for those of you interested in watching click here, so you can witness the torture first hand. Not quite good enough? Okay, well you can also decide there fate, as if it wasn’t bad enough that these poor people have to endure the horrendous British weather (which is bad enough without having to do so whilst being suspended from a giant Bill-board), they’re also due to be hammered by the elements and the watchers have complete control over which one. A voting system determines their fate, choose snow, and Microsoft will blast them with an artificial blizzard, choose heat and they’ll be exposed to high temperatures (they looked a little chilly up there so we’ve decided to help warm them up a little this time >:) ).
This has to be one of the most elaborate advertising Campaigns that I have ever seen and it’s certainly one of the most sinister. Still, stops the evening from getting too boring though, doesn’t it?
