Mafia 3’s return is a welcomed one, and although rumoured for months, we’re hoping that it builds on the excellent Mafia 2. Since its announcement, 2K Games and developers Hanger 13 have began releasing Inside Look trailers, and this one focuses on Family.
What we learn from the brief trailer is that lead character Lincoln Clay will need some close allies for the fight ahead, and you will run into Mafia 2’s lead character, Vito Scaletta. Lincoln returns from the Vietnam war to New Orleans, and falls in with the wrong crowd. Looking to take revenge, he begins to build his own criminal empire.
Playing as a black character in 1968 New Orleans may bring the rise of racism issues, and it will be interesting to see how Hangar 13 implement them. It has also been 5 years since the release of Mafia 2, and in that time we have had more open world adventures such as Saints Row and Grand Theft Auto, raising the bar in what can be done in massive environments, similar to what Mafia has done in the past. Mafia 3 is due some time in 2016, and we look forward to seeing more of the game in action. Below, you can see the Gamescom reveal trailer, if you missed it the first time.
