According to a tweet by Blizzard, apparently their Overwatch servers are experiencing a few issues. More notably, someone from Lizard Squad has stepped up and taken responsibility for the deed, although it’s hard to tell how much of that is truth.
According to VG247, not only are fans having difficulty signing into the servers, but “Overwatch players are being disconnected from matches, leading to a general concern on Twitter that they’ll be penalised in line with Blizzard’s crackdown on rage quitters.” That’s a fair concern to have, and a lot of digital paperwork for Blizzard to sift through, unless they count this week as a write-off in terms of issuing penalties.
We're currently investigating an issue affecting our authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow login attempts. #BlizzCS

At the time of writing, Blizzard’s Customer Support Twitter account has claimed to have resolved the problem, but who’s to say this matter won’t arise again, if this Lizard Squad member is to be believed?
Hai there @BlizzardCS
Don't mind me, just doing some preparations.
Take care of my packets, Thanks😘
