Lego Dimensions will start its second year this week, and roll out an even larger range than its initial offering. The Lego-themed action-adventure video game developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment certainly looks appealing and year 2 promises some surprises.
Harry Potter, Adventure Time, Mission Impossible and Sonic the Hedgehog are all headed to Dimensions over the coming months, Traveller’s Tales seem to recognise that us adults love to play too as they are also going to be releasing 80s franchises such as The A-Team, Knight Rider, The Goonies and Gremlins.
Lego Dimensions is going to be sold with complete movies in their own six-level Story Packs as well as the usual Team, Level and Fun Packs. Dimensions is completely modular and whilst there’s no continuation of its Year One story which unified the game’s initial range of brands the developer promises that there are ideas for continuations of the story, and there are ideas for continuations of the movies through some new free-play areas that have been implemented.
Another big change this year is the arrival of two promotional figurines not available to buy on their own. DC Comics hero Green Arrow (which is given away at some events or on ebay) and DC character Supergirl who is currently only available via new fresh Starter Packs of the game on PS4. Although Producer Mark Warburton points out it is merely timed exclusive content.
“I keep stressing it’s a timed exclusive. The exact specifics of that is something for Warner Bros. I’m sure there will be more things to come…”
TT Games is slowly teasing the figures and sets for the rest of its second year. They recently showed off its Lego Batman Movie story pack due in the spring of 2017, for example, and has announced but not shown franchises such as Powerpuff Girls for around the same time.
It’s certainly going to be an exciting year for Lego dimensions and those 80’s themed shows really appeal to me so it might just be the perfect time to think about getting into the game.
