It’s been a week since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain first hit the shelves and over the weekend, literally millions of gamers around the world sat down to put some serious time into what is being called “The greatest stealth game ever made”. Which has been great for the amount of positive feedback the game itself has received, but it has also revealed a pretty serious bug in the game’s programming. If you’re still progressing through mission 1-20, make sure you take note of what’s going on.
For those of you who’re lucky enough to have avoided the bug, it’s a file corruption that affects a players saved game when they take Quiet along on certain missions. As of yet we’re yet to hear of a fix but know that Konami themselves have acknowledged the issue and are working hard to rectify it, unfortunately if you’ve already been affected, it’s too late and you’re going to have to backtrack.
So, what exactly is going on? It’s actually pretty simple to avoid, as you progress in the game you’ll eventually be able to bring other characters along on missions as “buddies” for additional support. Quiet being one of the most well-known because of her… Personality. However taking her along on mission 29 and 42 can corrupt your save and therefore impede on your progression through the game. Leave her at base, and the save file will be unaffected. As difficult as that may be.
As far as details go there is none, so it’s unclear exactly what happens to causes the issue. So realistically if you’re still progressing through the game, it’s probably best to just take a mental note of the two missions that have been affected and leaving Quiet out of them. It’s worth noting that the bug isn’t isolated to a particular platform affecting all 5 of the platforms that game is available on.
