Silent hills is gone. There is nothing we can do about that unless Konami miraculously decide to bring it back from the dead after killing it off, but there is still hope for another Kojima and Del Toro partnership.
Speaking to IGN, Director Guillermo Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth) told them how he is still in touch with Hideo Kojima, are still friends and that they want to work on something together again. Of course, that won’t be Silent Hills.
“I love working with Kojima-san,” said Del Toro. “We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills].”
They were still in the early stages with Silent Hills, but are really disappointed not being able to see what the game could have been. He also said that they were going for a game that would “really mess with your head,” pointing at Metal Gear Solid 1’s boss fight with Psycho Mantis as an example.
“We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen. We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.”
Hopefully we will hear more on that in the future, as they really seem to be on the same wavelength. As for now, we will just have to wait. Maybe, when Kojima leaves they might create a studio together? That would be pretty sick.
What are your thoughts on what Del Toro said? What kind of game would you like to see them work on together? A horror game seems the natural fit for someone such as Del Toro. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
