Eagle-eyed individuals have noticed that the Japanese Xbox website no longer lists Kingdom Hearts III on its list of upcoming games. While set to release on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at some point in the future, it looks like it may become a PlayStation 4 exclusive in the far east.
Kingdom Hearts III is set after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, returning protagonist Sora is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey and Riku in their search for the seven guardians of light and the “Key to Return Hearts” as they attempt to thwart Master Xehanort’s plan to bring about a second Keyblade War.
Kingdom Hearts is a series I’m unfamiliar with other than knowing it’s a crossover between Final Fantasy and Disney, which sounds awesome. Having never played the original titles, of which there are 11 in total, it’s unfortunate that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is only penned for a PlayStation 4 release at the end of this year, which leads up to Kingdom Hearts III.
Xbox fans will be at a loss, which may affect their enjoyment of the game, when it releases hopefully in 2017. With Final Fantasy XV coming this year, all attention will be on that.
