A new rumour circulating the internet today suggests that Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal is to produce and star in a live action Tom Clancy’s The Division movie. This wouldn’t be a first for the actor, having previously starred in the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, also published by Ubisoft.
The report comes from Variety, and while the game itself has lost my attention following the amount of exploitation and glitching taking place since the updates starting rolling out, I am happy to promote the live action stuff that took place previously.
Anyone who watched the Agent Origins series on Youtube or elsewhere will agree that the short films were very well done, and an actual tv series in the same vein would be pretty cool to see. Probably expensive too, due to its setting.
The studio is currently looking for a writer to pen the adaptation, but Ubisoft have not officially announced the movie at this time. With Assassin’s Creed due at the end of this year, perhaps they’re waiting to see how that goes financially, and who knows, maybe that will get a sequel in the future too?
You can almost imagine that it’s Jake Gyllenhaal in that Division outfit above, can’t you?
