Issues surrounding No Man’s Sky player discoveries

no man's skyYesterday, it came about via a Reddit post that initial findings and discoveries had been deleted on planets revisited by its first discoverer in No Man’s Sky. This big mess up could have been the last nail in the coffin for a  game that has received immense criticism since launch, but thankfully, there’s a workaround.

The initial comment on Reddit reads as follows, posted by Dark_Nexis.

“So as I got closer to the center I thought to my self I should head back home good thing I set a waypoint on my starting planet to find my way back. I finally made it back after many hours and I found out all my discoveries were wiped and it said I discovered it on the 11th when I started on the 9th.. I check a few neighboring stars I discovered and their discovers were wiped.. So none of my named animals plants were ever saved. The system name and planet names were saved but everything elts was wiped. I’m kinda sad that after heading back that all that I discovered was never really saved except the system and planet names.. What I mean by “wiped” is the names I gave them are gone and reset like I never discovered them, there still there just not discovered when I did discover them before I left my starting system. Only thing still named is the planet and system names as said before.”

A few other individuals chimed in on the post, stating that they have experienced the same situation during their playthroughs of No Man’s Sky. One user noted that it happens in a pattern, starting with the first planet, then the second, then the third. It’s not random save issues, it’s almost as if you can only store so many discoveries before you override the first one all over again.

As you can imagine, if you play No Man’s Sky yourself, this would be a massive kick in the teeth for players. One feature that has certainly remained in the game unlike a list of others that were promised. However, not all is lost, literally, as there seems to be a server issue and a workaround to fix it.

Dark_Nexis updated his Reddit post with further findings.

“Ok so after reading some of the comments I played around in the game a bit, I re-downloaded and reloaded the game for about two hours. I don’t know what happened but all the discoveries re-appeared on my starting planet.//pbs.twimg.com/media/Cq1KN2oWcAA_SUc.jpg sorry for phone pic. I hope new news sites see this…It seems like a server bugs like it takes a while for your old discoveries to re download. Please spread the word and if you are having this problem just wait and see if your discoveries will return. It seems a little bugged where as you get further and further away from your starting point you can’t see your old discoveries even when you find your way back. It’s like the server lags behind big time and takes a while to find the old information.”

But, if you’re not willing to re-download and reload the game for two hours, will someone else find your discoveries and override them?
