Netherrealm have announced a new feature for Injustice 2, in the form of the dreaded microtransaction. Hell, what full priced $60/€70 game doesn’t feature them these days? Injustice 2 will introduce ‘Source Crystals’ that will allow you to customize your roster with cosmetic changes, and allow you to progress faster by buying time-saving level ups, once you’ve already hit the max with another character.
On a new forum post, details of the new microtransaction announcement shared some details. “Source Crystals are in-game currency that can be purchased for real money through the PSN and Xbox One stores.” “You can purchase Premiere Skins for select characters, Shaders for character costumes, and the ability to take a character to level 20 after you’ve leveled up a character to 20 prior. You can also unlock Transform Gear with Source Crystals allowing you to combine and forge Gear for your characters.”
It’s relieving to know that some Premium skins can be unlocked via gameplay, although some will only be available via real money. Some Premium skins may in fact change the voice of your character, so for example, if they release a Premium skin of The CW’s Flash tv show, and Grant Gustin is the voice; that may be applicable for a real life purchase.
Netherrealm confirm that these Source Crystals won’t impact on gameplay in Injustice 2, and won’t make it easier for you to win against opponents.
“Source Crystals will not give you or other players an advantage in the game. They are used for cosmetic options and time saving purposes only. To be clear, we value our community and want to confirm that you cannot “pay to win” in Injustice 2.”
Injustice 2 will be available on May 16th, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. No confirmation of a PC or Nintendo Switch port.
