Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock over the past year or so, you’ll have heard about the ongoing Kojima/Konami drama. Now it seems Konami have gone one step further in banning Kojima from attending this year’s Game Awards event or receiving any awards for his and his studio’s game, Metal Gear Solid V.
Metal Gear Solid V picked up the award for best action/adventure game which was accepted on behalf of Kojima by Kiefer Sutherland. Geoff Keighley then went on to address the crowd by announcing why Kojima was not in attendance and gave his own thoughts on the controversy:
“He’s still under an employment contract and it’s disappointing, and it’s inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates.”
It’s clear by watching the clip below whose side the crowd is on.
Konami aren’t doing itself any favours these days, insisting Kojima remain listed as their employee while banning him from events and erasing his name from his own game series. While a lot of what is going on is behind closed doors, I think at this stage we can all safely say FucKonami. Especially @kevin-o-connell who couldn’t participated in this article but wanted to convey exactly those sentiments.
I don’t know about you, but when I think of Konami now, this theme tune springs to mind..
