Yesterday at the Oculus Connect 3, Harmonix, the developer of Rock Band, Dance Central and Disney Fantasia announced a new karaoke game called SingSpace, exclusively for Samsung’s Gear VR. Perhaps it sounds better than it looks? Let’s take a look. Just don’t ask us to demo it!
“Torn between hitting the karaoke bar and lounging at home in your pajamas? Now you don’t have to choose! Pull on the Gear VR with your compatible Samsung device and be transported to a karaoke bar at the end of the galaxy where you’ll be able to meet up with old friends or make new ones during a night of shared revelry. With an emphasis on social (but also a solo experience for those shy singers), SingSpace will give you the chance to show off or just sit back and listen.”
I thought that maybe Harmonix would follow suit with what Guitar Hero Live produced this year, with a reactive live crowd, giving you a bit of a boost in confidence. This just looks a little bit ‘appy’ if that makes sense?
Other than that, we don’t know how many songs will be included at launch, or if more songs will be added in time, post launch as premium content, but I can’t help but wonder why they don’t just continue to use Rock Band’s library of music can call it Rock Band Karaoke? Licensing issues I’m sure, but I’m not feeling it with this VR app.
SingSpace will be available this coming spring exclusively on Samsung Gear VR.
