While most filmmakers prefer to work in privacy and keep things under wraps for as long as possible (I’m looking at YOU, J.J. Abrams!), Gunn is regularly active on social media, maintaining a dialogue with his fans. Those who frequent his facebook page will often be greeted by lengthy, informative posts regarding his current projects, and the stages of development which they are currently in. Gunn often answers follow-up questions in the comments section.
Naturally, most of the questions are about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and yesterday, Gunn jumped at the first opportunity to share a teaser image with his fans, along with some exciting casting news.
“Official photography on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has started, and I couldn’t be more stoked,” the director began. “My favorite movie as a small child was The Strongest Man in the World, so I’m glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and, yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined.” This announcement comes after months of rumours that Peter Quill’s father would be played by none other than Snake Plissken himself.
Fans were ecstatic about the news. With particular focus/praise being given to the appearance of Baby Groot, a fan-favourite from the first film. The cast will include Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently set for release on May 5th, 2017, and there doesn’t seem to be any signs of a delay.
